ATAXIC CEREBRAL PALSY - MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE

Ataxic cerebral palsy is typically characterised by low muscle tone with poor coordination and inadequate motor skills causing difficulty with movement. Balance is disrupted and the perception of distance and depth is affected. An affected child will suffer from shaking and unsteadiness when trying to carry out delicate actions as the hand eye coordination is reduced. In practical terms, this means that children with ataxic cerebral palsy will write sentences more slowly than other children and some tasks, such as school projects, will be a visibly slower process for them. Those who suffer from this condition walk in an unsteady fashion with their feet far apart. This is a rare form of the disorder, affecting less than ten percent of all affected children.

Probably the most characteristic trait of ataxic cerebral palsy is known as an “intention tremor”. This occurs during a voluntary movement such as reaching for an object when shaking or trembling affects the body part in question and becomes more severe as the action is undertaken.

If you believe that your child’s ataxic cerebral palsy was caused by medical errors we can help you to investigate the medical history and in appropriate cases claim compensation. All of our solicitors are specialist members of the Law Society panel of clinical negligence experts and are authorized to make an immediate application for legal aid which is always granted to children without consideration of the parent’s income and assets.

If you would like to speak to a specialist solicitor about a cerebral palsy compensation claim free of charge and with no further obligation, just complete and send the contact form or use the helpline or send a message by email. If after talking to us you decide not to take your potential claim further then you are quite at liberty to do so and you will not be charged for our advice which is given free of charge.
